  • About this event

High-octane funk, rock and soul: Mother’s Finest are returning to Germany in November 2026 for select concerts – presented by RBK Fusion and fronted by founding members Joyce “Baby Jean” Kennedy and Glenn “Doc” Murdock. The US cult band from Atlanta brings its uncompromising blend of danceable grooves and hard rock power to the stage and has been one of the most energetic live acts in its field for over 50 years. In Saarbrücken, Dresden and Munich, that electrifying formula comes alive – the band’s own “Too Funk for Rock, Too Rock for Funk” sound that has defined them since the 1970s. Their international breakthrough came in 1976 with the single “Fire”, followed by “Baby Love” and “Piece of the Rock”. A legendary status in Europe was cemented in 1978 with their Rockpalast performance in Essen. Honors such as induction into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and inclusion of their music in the Smithsonian Institution’s African American history collection underline the significance of this funk rock institution. Mother’s Finest still perform largely in their original line-up: alongside Kennedy and Murdock, guitarist Gary “Moses Mo” Moore, bassist Jerry “Wyzard” Seay, drummer Dion Murdock and guitarist John Hayes form a close-knit live crew – a line-up with more than five decades of stage experience. In Munich, the band will perform live at Muffathalle on 30 November 2026. The three shows in Saarbrücken, Dresden and Munich promise an intense concert experience between danceable funk, raw rock power and the stage presence that has made Mother’s Finest a legend.

    Biography of Mother's Finest

Formed in 1970 in Atlanta, Georgia, Mother’s Finest crossed boundaries early on: as one of the first truly multiracial bands in a rock and funk context, they made a bold statement and quickly gained recognition with an uncompromising stage presence. Their international breakthrough arrived in 1976 with the single “Fire”, followed by songs like “Baby Love” and “Piece of the Rock”. In 1978, a celebrated Rockpalast performance in Essen cemented their cult status in Europe.

In recognition of their lifetime achievement, Mother’s Finest were inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame; their music is part of the Smithsonian Institution’s African American history collection. Today, the band still presents its signature profile with distinctive voices and collective experience: founding members Joyce “Baby Jean” Kennedy and Glenn “Doc” Murdock lead from the front, joined by long-time companions Gary “Moses Mo” Moore (guitar), Jerry “Wyzard” Seay (bass), Dion Murdock (drums) and John Hayes (guitar).

The artistic DNA of Mother’s Finest remains unmistakable: a powerful, genre-spanning blend that draws as much from the grooves of James Brown as from the raw heft of hard rock — uncompromising, danceable and timeless.
